*LAST UPDATE: 06/09/2025
This thing's amazing man. I've had it since 2023 and it's a game-changer, it's pretty much a level below CDJ's (the festival standard). I use this with Serato on my laptop, to fully take advantage of the 4 channels (2 in standalone), and to use samples and stems.
Everything in this drop-down list lives in this incredibly convenient flight case. It's the perfect plug-n-play solution for me. All I need to do is take the top off, plug in power, a thunderbolt USB-C to my laptop, connection cables to my WolfMix W1, and a couple of Ethernet cables for Audio Over Ethernet & HDMI Over Ethernet.
IEM SYSTEM: LD Systems MEI1000G2
I choose in-ear-monitors over headphones any day. It's comfortable, sleek, less of a mess, and enables me to move freely while playing! This specific model I love quite a lot as the quality is great and with the details on the pack and the transmitter, I always know what's going on. Plus it has locking features so I don't accidentally tamper with it!
It's worth spending a little more than you want to when it comes to essential things like your listening abilities while performing. I've had these for a while and they've not let me down!
I've had this system since 2021 and I've never looked back. It's a perfect solution to all my needs. It has 4 independent XLR outputs, so you can independently mix or assign effects etc. I just use the mix out jack to combine them all, as the receiver has volume knobs so I don't need anything too fancy, but it's nice to have if I wanted to do something different! Range is pretty good on these, never had an issue and the clarity is great! For sure worth the price.
THUNDERBOLT SYSTEM: SELORE&S GLOBAL
Another major convenience item. As all my tech and cables etc are hidden away under the actual mixer, all that needs to come into my laptop is one USB-C cable. It carries data to and from: my mixer, the WolfMix, my StreamDeck, the HDMI over Ethernet, and even more if I needed to. "But Luke, that's not very convenient if you only have one cable plugged into your laptop, won't it die after a couple of hours?" NOPE! It also sends charging power to the laptop!
I mainly used to use this to stream my PlayStation games, but it's now living in the DJ case. It connects to my GoPro to link to my laptop, that's running OBS, to display graphics or livestream. There's an HDMI loop out available so I can connect my camera to an external input as well as my setup.
*UPDATED VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
Having re-chargeable batteries is a no-brainier game-changer. The amount of money I must've saved from buying AA batteries every time my mics or my pack died. I've been running re-chargeable for a long number of years now and I would recommend it to anyone that's running similarly to me.
I had to find a way to power all my USB items without it using the Thunderbolt station, as when I un-plug my laptop, everything being powered by it temporarily loses power for about half a second - and for more important things like my WolfMix and my GoPro, I can't have that happen. So I got this from Anker and it powers both of those, as well as my HDMI over Ethernet KVM and my re-chargeable battery station.
This small RCA mixer combines the outputs from my mixer main out, and also my Hollyland clip-on-mics. Saves me time syncing it together in edit. If I wanted clean mixer audio, I can just simply unplug the mics, but I record from my mixer straight to a USB anyway.
I use the StreamDeck to switch to different graphics which I made myself, and also to control the livestream (if I'm doing one).
A quick and easy way to get a stable fit for my GoPro in the case.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
I love these lasers - they're fully DMX controllable (as with everything else in this list). I own 6 of these, and the better you place them, the better the effect will be. The only downside is that if you're playing in a venue where haze & smoke isn't allowed, the effect is basically none.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
These are good if you're starting out. It's a slow color wheel and the brightness isn't very impressive but the gobos are good (does not rotate).
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
These are also pretty basic, you can get 8 of these for a fairly good price. They light up pretty well but they have slow movement and they can slowly degenerate after a long time of use.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
These are super bright, I like these quite a lot. The original plan was for these to light me up a bit, but I decided that as they were so so bright, I'd use them as a "crowd wash" instead. They break up into 4 sections so it's got a pretty good control.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
This is awesome for a wedding scenario. It pretty much gives off a disco-ball effect, without the complications of actually having a disco-ball. I plan on getting another one, so I can have one on either side of the room that I'd play in. Fades really well and has good speed adjustment.
This thing is a BEAST. I really love the LB150, wish I had more. It does have a very tight beam that becomes slightly bigger when you enable prisms (which are awesome by the way, and also rotate!). The color wheel is incredible and switches between colors so seamlessly quick (obviously no fade), and it's extremely bright and can move very quick. It's not a huge light but packs a punch, it feels extremely premium and doesn't feel like a "mini" product.
This fixture is very different to what I'm used to, but I actually really like it. It's a huge blinder, you can control the 4 individual lights with DMX, only does cold white & amber for colors but it feels quite retro and I like that.
Having a haze machine is great, pumping haze slowly into the room without a big puffy cloud every time you want some. As standard for haze machines, you can control the fan strength and the smoke intensity, to get your desired haze heaviness. I love this thing and would totally recommend.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
These are pretty cool, it has an RGB LED around the smoke tube and can shoot fast upon triggering the smoke. It doesn't reach extremely high after the initial trigger but for the price it's actually pretty good.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
I like using these on rare occasions, more events rather than DJ gigs. A bit of an unnecessary thing to have but I think it's cool.
Having a DMX bubble machine is essential! I'm just kidding, but to get a bubble machine with DMX is not a cheap job unfortunately. It's a very good one though, you can control fan strength and bubble speed.
PA SYSTEM: DB TECHNOLOGIES B-HYPE 10
This is such a great system. Having a digital PA system makes life so much better in my opinion. This bundle comes with 2 tops and 1 sub (I intend to buy another to match and have L+R subs) and stands/cables etc. The best PA system I've ever had so far!
AUDIO OVER ETHERNET: CABLE MATTERS
This piece of kit is pretty neat, it converts 4 channels of XLR into Ethernet, you can run a cable up to probably 60-100 meters (it doesn't say on the page but that would be my guess), and then converts it back into XLR, no delay. I love this system because Ethernet cables are a lot cheaper than stereo XLR cables (which for one 20m XLR cable, that would cost approximately £28), so the fact I can send 4 channels of audio down a single Ethernet cable (which costs approximately £30 for 60m!) is incredible. If you ever buy this though, make sure you use shielded Ethernet cables!
If you're running an active PA system, definitely get these, it makes life so much easier... and neater!
Having a wired backup mic is always a good idea, even if you have the best wireless system in the world. I mainly just use this mic for my radio sets, as I don't need to be moving around that much to the point I need a wireless.
This is the camera I record all my videos on! It's got a very diverse settings menu, you can do up to 240 frames, or 5k, and the stabilization on this thing is awesome! I also love how far out I can setup my frame to capture a super wide angle when I'm recording my DJ sets. I'd reccomend this to any DJ that wants to acheive a similar thing to me. Only downside is the overheating problem, but that's not new for GoPro.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
Similar to the Audio over Ethernet solution, this is a great way of transmitting video without spending a shed load of money. The transmitter lives in my DJ case and is powered in there, and the receiver is attached to a 50m ethernet drum that goes to wherever it needs to go so that a screen can get my signal. The receiver is also powered though the Ethernet cable by the transmitter, so there's no need for a power cable on the receiving end, just an HDMI cable.
Although the price is a bit crazy for a GoPro case, what it does is actually very very useful. It enables you to plug in your own microphone, and HDMI out, and power the camera all at the same time, you can't do it without. It also has some cold shoe mounts so I can attach my GoPro light on top, and my mic receiver on the side, makes for a very good IRL setup!
This wireless microphone system is one of the best on the market right now. The battery lasts a very long time on all 3 of the wireless devices (about 7 hours!), and the case charges them all pretty quickly. I have no complaints whatsoever and works extremely well, especially with my GoPro. The audio is crystal clear, and also has options for background suppression (I don't use though) and mono or stereo recording (1 mic in left channel, 1 mic in right channel - great for re-mixing in edit).
I think everyone and their mother has heard of OBS by now but if you don't know, it's what people like me use to record and livestream. I also use it to run graphics, as the integration with the StreamDeck is really good.
I love me an overpriced editing software!😉 When it's not crashing, I love using Premiere to edit all of my content.
In 2025 I upgraded my booth after 10 years of outgrowing my previous one, and my goodness what an upgrade. I would easily recommend this to any DJ. It's a simple setup with great packaging too might I add. It can hold a lot of weight (I'm not suggesting you test that by jumping on it), and it comes with both a black cover and a white one too, perfect for special occasions!
All my business cards & logo stickers come from VistaPrint. I create a batch of them and I normally order a couple thousand at a time, double sided. The prices are pretty good so I'd recommend them if you're looking for that.
"Ewww get a Mac it's better" shut up. I've had this laptop since 2022 and it's been the powerhouse of my DJ sets, it's not let me down once! Although it did take a beating a month after I bought it... on an unrelated note, make sure you always put safety on your lighting fixtures, especially if they're hanging up directly above your laptop!
A good laptop stand is always useful.
Having a good USB drive is essential. Make sure you always go for a USB 3.0 if you want speeds faster than a snail!
This subscription enables me to use the SoundCloud feature with Serato DJ Pro. So if by chance I don't have a song that's been requested on the spot, as long as I have an internet connection I can find it! It's a monthly subscription but it's well worth in my opinion.
SERATO DJ EXPANSIONS SUBSCRIPTION
This Serato DJ Pro subscription comes with a bunch of expansions in one, including Pitch 'N Time, FX & Video! I mainly utilize the P'NT subscription to ensure that when I speed up or down my track, it doesn't sound like dog poo. I don't know why it did before I got P'NT, but it doesn't anymore so I won't complain.
This is how I run my audio (XLR) or video (HDMI) over long distances over Ethernet. I have 2 of these, both 50m long. Works perfect in any condition and a much cheaper alternative than buying XLR or HDMI in that length! Plus, it can be used for any purpose, I can use it for both A/V, or I can use it for networking! You can't get that flexible functionality with XLR or HDMI!
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
I've had these since 2022, and they work pretty well for pretty much any fixture. I don't have any complaints because it was cheap but it can hold some weight.
What an amazing invention. These clips allow me to discreetly hide my IEC & XLR combo cables coming from my speakers, down the stand and into my booth. Sometimes it's the little things that make the setup.
These are for lights that I want to put directly on top of a speaker stand - top-hats enable me to do so! I use this for my single LB150 and also the white star-projector light. Much better than a risky cable-tie job!
For any hanging lighting fixture, PLEASE GET THESE!! As well as an extra precaution so it's one less thing to worry about, it's also a life-saver! Before I started using these, I had a lighting setup that was built into my old booth, and the lights hung above my setup & decks, laptop etc. One time (I have no idea how) but one of my lights disconnected from the rig and smashed into my laptop screen (hence the joke earlier). From that moment onward, I've never done a gig without safety. It was my lesson to learn but I don't want you reading this to learn the way I did!
Wow wow wow. This is the best lighting controller on the market for DJ's, bands & small events by FAR. This USB-powered standalone powerhouse allows you to put on incredible light shows, in a matter of minutes. As long as you know how DMX channels work, this thing is a piece of cake. Incredible effects, well thought out functions and 200 presets with 80 overlayed live edits? Nothing's beating this anytime soon. 100% recommendation for any DJ or anyone that wants to take lighting seriously.
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
For someone that needs to setup and pack down at a very fast pace, wireless DMX has been a game-changer since I got it in 2024. I just need to plug the transmitter into my WolfMix, then the battery-powered receivers into my fixtures, and we're good to go! The range is normally pretty good, though if you're in a venue where there are lots of frequencies flying around, be careful as you might experience some drop-outs! The battery on these last for over 7 hours on full-charge, more than enough for an average gig!
SOUNDSWITCH MICRO DMX INTERFACE
I did have one of these, although I think it's gone missing, but anyway I know what it's like to use one and it's great! I'm not a fan of the SoundSwitch workflow at all, which is why I changed to the WolfMix. But the reason this is so good is because it enables me to automatically time-code music to lighting. Stay with me now... I use the SS that converts into W-LINK (WolfMix cable/protocol), into the WolfMix controller. That essentially talks to the WolfMix and tells it what to do (switch presets, trigger effects, blackout etc), which is assignable by the WolfMix. So on the SS software, I simply setup 1 DMX channel which is responsible for all my WM presets (and a couple more for haze & smoke etc). Then since SS has an integration with Serato, I can time-code music or an entire DJ set with the WolfMix! It's a bit of a cheat get-around... but it works! (ADJ/WolfMix: if you see this... PLEASE make an integration with Serato!!)
*SIMILAR VERSION TO WHAT I HAVE
In a similar way I use the SoundSwitch Micro DMX Interface (what a mouthful), I sometimes use this cheap mixer to trigger effects and smoke/haze through the WolfMix W1 protocol. The fixtures aren't connected to this mixer, it all still runs through the WolfMix, but this just sends info to the WM to give it external info and control.
